YOUR NOT ALONE

Howard, Craig, and Carla climbed in the Hummer. “Now Howard, this is the time to talk!” Craig said holding Carla who was upset.

Howard replied, “Like I said Craig, I am your best friend, H&A Security is part Allan’s, and part AJ Inc., our company. Yes I have been looking after you a lot, it’s a precaution.”

“Why Howard” Carla asked. “It’s simple, Samuel is not the only one you need to be leery of Craig, and you too Carla. There are some very jealous people who would do anything to have what you two have, and I’m not just talking about the treasures!”

“We’re talking about this tonight aren’t we Howard?” Craig commanded, “Yes Jonesy, we are?” Craig turned to look behind them “So I see!”

Once all vehicles and passengers were all inside the house and gate shut, Carla and Mary Kate returned with a bottle of cognac and five snifters, “Let’s get this over with guys” Craig said pouring each a glass as the laptops where opened up.

Howard was running his fingers through his hair. Allan was looking out at the lake. Craig was making fists and frowning. “I thought we went through all this Sunday,” Craig asked.

“What, who, and why Allan” Carla asked. “Mark and Paula Smith; Samuel White and Aileen Fletcher for starters,” Howard answered Carla. “Craig you may also have a brother! Carla your gut feeling turned out correct. Craig, close your mouth please.” Allan stated.

LIES

Wednesday dinner at Turner’s was attended by, Mary Kate, Allan, Craig, Carla, Howard and to everyone’s surprise Samuel. The table ordered coffee and a Jack Daniels on the rocks. The women had their salads, the men steak sandwiches, Samuel a burger and another Jack Daniels on the rocks. The conversation was low key and mainly about weather and politics, after dinner Allan’s phone rang it was Marcus, “Hi guys I am here you may begin.”

Allan took control of the meeting, “Ok, the mystery emails we have been receiving for many years from Riddleman have all been coming from Samuel White. You Samuel have been tormenting and doing damage to our relationships for years with your joke emails and it must stop now. April S Riddle, A May Riddle, W June and C August where all from you. Samuel you’ve never changed you email address . . . the trail is still there.”

“Samuel, why have you been doing this? Furthermore, you never thought about the trail you left with these emails?” Marcus asked. “You lied to all of us.”

Carla sat there shocked with her mouth open, “I can’t believe you. Samuel you lied to me! Looked me in the eye and flat out lied. How can you call yourself a lawyer when you’re incapable of telling the truth?”

Craig stood up taking Carla’s hand, “Thank you for finding out the truth Allan, and thank you for the dinner. Marcus I will be talking with you tomorrow morning at 9 AM sharp. As for you Samuel, you are no longer my friend or my attorney!”

Howard stood up, “Big screw up Samuel, good bye!” “But Craig,” Samuel said, watching as Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Howard Awls left the restaurant.

“Allan, I,” Allan stopped Samuel. “No Samuel, don’t say another word. I believe I speak for everyone that was at this table. Your relationship with us is over.” “I agree. Good bye Samuel,” Marcus disconnected his phone. Allan and Mary Kate got up and left the waiter handed the check to Samuel.

WORK

Trying to get into a new routine isn’t always pleasant, but, you grin and bear it.

As the saying goes for better or worse …….

Tuesday went smoothly, Carla kept the food and drinks coming for James, Howard and Craig, they finally wrapped things up about 4 PM, thanking her for all her hard work as they left with a kiss on her cheek.

Craig went to cleaning up the library as Carla ran upstairs she changed and came back down. She went to the fridge and pulled out the cocktail shaker, martini glasses, putting them on a tray, added some cheese and crackers, stabbed the olives and poured the drinks as Craig walked into the room.

“What’s this Carla?” “Well thought you could use a cocktail after your hard day at the office, please sit down and enjoy, tell me about your day at the office.” Carla handed him a drink, napkin and the plate of munchies “Is it ok?”

“I don’t remember ever having a martini like this?” “It’s made with vodka not gin, like it?” Craig shook his head “Yes I do, I’ll tip you later” he winked at her.

“Dinner is ready whenever you are.” “Please don’t tell me its lasagna or pot roast. I’m tired of both after three days in a row.” “No problem it’s neither, it is one of your favorites with a twist.”

Honeymoon Over

Monday Carla was Girl Friday to Howard, Marcus, Allan, Craig, Blackie, and James. All in the library talking with Craig about all the work he will be doing. At the family room table, Marcus and Allan were busy working on the laptops. At night, it was James and Howard with Craig about all the things regarding his involvement in Awlsport and Blackston Lake.

Carla had cooked and served the breakfast and lunch and kept the coffee and water going. Monday late afternoon Lucille came over with a big apple pie and pot roast. After dinner, Allan and Marcus took off for home, Carla got a chance to talk with Lucille as Howard, James, and Craig went back to the Library.

“Lucille I’m so confused,” Carla said as Lucille sat down next to her on the sofa. “Let’s see if I can help clear up this mud for you. James helped Howard start H&A Security. It snowballed faster than they ever expected, so with all these men knowing about the legal, finance, IT and logistics they brought in Allan, Marcus, Blackie and now Craig for all their expertise. Carla you also are a very important part in H&A as well as what the men are talking about now. I understand you’re really good at planning and historical things.”

They talked a little while longer waiting for the men to finish up. Lucille patted Carla’s hand and continued trying to help her understand. “Carla it’ll be confusing for a short time but you’ll be perfect for this, you’ll see. Some wedding present hah.”

Carla said “Lucille that was a big understatement. I’ve been married to Craig for little over a month now and it’s been a circus so far, a big wonderful circus. Scary at times, but so was our courtship. I just want us to be happy and start a family together.” Finally, she was realizing what everything was all about at H&A and how she and Craig fit in to the puzzle.

“That I promise we will do soon, Mrs. Jones, meetings over. Craig said as he came up and gave Carla a hug and kiss on her cheek. “Thanks Lucille for keeping my girl company and bringing her up to speed think I can take over now!”

“Good night you two, thanks for everything Carla.” Howard and James said. “Good night.” Craig closed the door, “Carla we only need breakfast tomorrow, just me Howard and James.” Craig said as he took Carla in his arms.

“Wow, what a day Honey. I need something to bring my mind back to neutral how about you?” Craig said as he grabbed the remote control for the drapes and the one for the TV.

“What’s with the TV? This isn’t my husband, we’re not couch potatoes.” Carla looked at Craig and giggled, “Although after today we just might be, some pre-season football and popcorn sound good?” Craig smiled and took her hand pulling her close. “Yes mama as long as I don’t have to think about anything but you!”

“Oh before I forget, 6 AM wakeup Carla. Can you set the coffee pot while you’re in there I’m back to work, honeymoon is over.”

“Oh say it ain’t so, no more whoopee!” Carla exclaimed in horror. “Not a chance of that Mrs. Jones as long as I’m above ground!”

Carla giggled, “Thank God, I thought someone took my insatiable hubby away and left me with an imposter; you were MIA for quite a while today Mr. Jones” Carla walked in with hot popcorn and 2 beers, “See if this helps?”

“Perfect” Craig took a drink and handful of popcorn after he found some football and sat back on the sofa letting out a long sigh. “Got anything to fix that’s easy for breakfast tomorrow?”

“Always, there is left over casserole and coffee cake, plus Lucille left the lasagna and pot roast from the last two evenings, said it would come in handy for tomorrow and she was right, I’ll just add some salad and sit back and relax.”

“Got that all planned out don’t you, well how about doing some house work?” “Why Craig Jones, are you saying I’m not a good housewife” Carla started to tickle Craig but he stopped her before she could start. “Not right now, and no you’re a great housewife, just teasing Honey . . . got mush for brains.” “I know, just relax.”
