Wind and rain blew outside, Craig was up early, running on the treadmill. “What are you up to Craig, its only 5:30?” Carla asked, sitting up Indian style watching Craig on the treadmill.
“Getting over some of my anger about this whole mess ok, I’m better now. I am so glad you had me talk to Mr. Vanderbilt. I have an appointment with him this morning at 11. You, Howard and Allan were so right, the ties that bind are now all severed,” he said throwing the towel over his shoulders.
“Are you ok? This must hurt a bit since you trusted this guy,” Carla said with sincerity in her voice as she sat with her hands folded in her lap.
Craig turned slowly looking at Carla for a moment he said, “Yes it did, but it doesn’t any more. I’m not sure we are going to be part of the Corps Group any more either.”
Shocked Carla gasped and said, “Wow, that’s quite a mouthful for so early in the morning! Now about the other night Mr. Jones, I know you have questions, I am part of those questions, so what’s on your mind?” Carla waited silently she already knew what he would ask her, or at least she hoped she knew.
“Ok, yes I do. I want to know why you think Michael is my brother.” Craig asked as he sat down on the bed next to her.
“Is this why you had me held so tight last night Craig?” She asked as she bit her lower lip.
“I guess so.”
“Here’s the evidence we have so far” she pulled out the manila envelope from her nightstand and laid out several photos on the bed from the Café showing Michael and a few with Michael and Craig in close portrait type photos. “You two have the same eyes, expressions, frown, and mannerisms.”
Craig looked at the photos and then Carla, tilting his head he asked, “Who took these?”
“I took a few with my phone, Howard and Tommy took some when we were not around. Before you get all upset, Howard has possibly found his birth certificate; and he was not born here but in California. We don’t know how he ended up here. Michael has been completely respectful of you and me.” Craig looked at the photos laying there on the bed.
“Does Michael suspect we’re related, he’s much younger isn’t he?” Craig commented as he toweled off looking in her eyes, searching for an answer.
“To our knowledge he doesn’t suspect anything Craig.”
“H&A is doing this?”
“Yes Craig, they are.” Carla got up and walked over to him.
“And, do you think Michael’s behind some of the things going on Carla?” He asked her, taking her hand as she looked into his eyes.
“No and truthfully he may be a cousin. So until we actually know for certain let’s table it, ok Craig?”
“I suppose, this is some of Granny working in you isn’t it Carla, that outsiders thing. And I must admit the outsider in you has been right so far.” Craig kissed her and pulled her into him, “Carla, are you worried at all about this effecting our financial situation?”
“Craig at this time I have no idea what our financial situation is, that is some information we probably should talk about, but I know that we will when you feel we need to. Honestly, I am still reeling from our whirlwind romance. Do you realize 6 months ago you brought me to this house to see your old relic?”
