So Talk

We all have that special friend that we can tell our secrets to and confess our true feelings knowing it won’t go anywhere…

They finally stopped at Allan’s in New Buffalo breaking the silence in the car. “How did you know how to get here Carla?” Craig asked.

“Your GPS system has it programmed in.”

Carla smiled at Craig as he replied, “Sure I forgot well let’s see if anyone is home.”

Allan opened the door as Duke, their golden retriever bounded out checking out the visitors. “Hello you two, what a welcome surprise. Come in please.”

Mary Kate took Carla out on the porch giving her a hug then said, “I know about yesterday Carla and I know you! So talk. Probably get rid of some anger, like we use to talk after a bad date night.”

Carla put her hands in her lap making a fist then she spoke. “Yes and I couldn’t say these things to Craig. He already knows about more than I ever wanted him to know because of Mark and his fucking camera! Oh I didn’t mean to say that, sorry Mary Kate.”

Mary Kate smiled, “Oh yes you did Carly, I know you so spill it.” Mary Kate urged her on. “Did Mark ever?”

“No never! Mary Kate, he would touch me a lot.” Carla was rubbing her arms and shaking them. “Yucky I need a shower every time I get this feeling . . . and obviously Mark stalked me, the pictures proved that. It was his obsession with everything about me. Why I have no fucking idea!”

“That is what has me really freaking out now. Craig actually came into my crazy life at the right time, when he was around Mark was set straight.”

Waving her arms around and pacing the room, Carla looked out at the lake and continued. “What does not make sense is how he got into my apartment.”

“What was Paula’s problem? Jealousy I suppose, because she would get snippy every time I got flowers, sometimes she’d almost throw them at me . . . She was so bi-polar I never knew how she was going to act when we were together, sisterly or bitch. I can’t help but think she knew about Mark’s obsession with me.”

Carla took a long deep breath “I never once encouraged him in any fucking way, he made my skin crawl, I just wanted to scream anytime he was touching me. I know now he was a sick man, but I can’t forgive him. Am I so bad for feeling like this Mary Kate?”

Carla sat on the floor next to Duke and cuddle up to him, as he licked her hand “Thanks for the puppy kisses Duke.”

She hugged the dog as Mary Kate said. “No Carla, you have every right to feel this way and I’m sure Vanessa will agree with that. Mark and Paula are gone now, it’s over”

Carla stopped, kneeled and crawled over to Mary Kate and took her hand speaking almost in a whisper. “Remember how protective Jake was, even AC would get mad when Mark was around.”

“Yes I do Carla, why is this coming up?” Mary Kate had a serious look on her face.

Carla whispered, “MK just between us, Jake called the other day, told me they were going to testify and that they will take care of this.”

Mary Kate squeezed Carla’s hand “Oh no Carla! Do not mention this to anyone ever again Carla please promise. I think Jake was just using a figure of speech, they are both above that.” Mary Kate patted her hand and held it tight, her mind racing in a theory she did not want to think about, she shook her head thinking; I left this part of my life behind
forever.

Now who’s the tipsy one?

So let’s see how the party is progressing, everyone is in the lake, and the party is still going on and the wine is flowing. Anyone remember the fun beach parties … let’s have another glass of wine and see how things are a Craig’s Place?

Allan commented “Hey Craig, where’s your boat, we use to go skiing all the time. Wonder if I could still get this body up on skis.” “Well Allan she’s in dry dock, being trying to get the Mahogany Babe seaworthy,” Craig said.

“Yeah buddy and it’s not looking too promising at this time Craig, sorry” Howard admitted shaking his head as he put his arm across Craig’s shoulders. “So it’s that bad then, we haven’t really talked about it since we got home. We’ll talk later on that Howard.” Craig said shaking his head, thinking ouch how much would that cost now.

Carla thought how interesting it was that everyone got along and seemed to be the same, the only difference was the height and muscles. Allan had a muscular build in the chest, back, arms and abs. Marcus was just muscles everywhere. Howard on the other hand was the tallest about 6’4 and his muscles put the other men to shame, even Marcus did not have those arms, which undoubtedly came from the sledgehammer and iron he would sling when he is working.

“Penny for your thoughts Carla,” Nichole said. “Oops sorry I was just thinking about all the men that have come into my life in the past 6 months. Those 4 have been friends for a long time, and from the back, if you just looked at the heads they all seem the same,” Carla commented.

“Ah, sea monster” Carla hollered and started swimming but Craig caught her in his arms pulling her up to his chest. “Were you headed little mermaid? We have company but out here I can play a little, miss you.”

“Oh you know I don’t think I remember. I was lost in Blackston Lake looking for a resting place to put my tail.” Carla laughed as Craig just shook his head and said. “Well I just happen to know the perfect place, but we do have a lot of company and we better get back to entertaining. I’ll find a place to rest your tail later, if the gator doesn’t get you first” he licked his lips and kissed her, “Come my dear, we must entertain.”

When they turned around everyone was watching them out by the Jetty, laughing, Howard hollered. “Hey you two are you coming back to land, or should we send out the lifeboat? Oh I forget that you don’t have one do you.”

“Be right there Howard, need some more fermented fruit juice” Craig hollered as he took Carla’s hand “Race you.”

Back on the seawall deck, everyone was drying off or dancing to the music. Allan had taken Mary Kate over on the beach dancing and had her in an embrace. Craig motioned to Carla and whispered, “He’s got the same bug as Marcus does now.” “Yes and I’m so glad it’s with my best friend my husband, I need a glass of wine please” She replied with a little kiss on the cheek . . .

Nichole walked up to Carla, “This is the first time I’ve seen Howard without his shirt. Ouch!” “Why Nichole my, oh my, you are blushing my friend.” Carla giggled, which brought a blush to Nichole “Must be the wine.” “Ok we can go with that.”

Craig put on more music and everyone was dancing on the patio and drinking their wine. Between the food, wine, water and dancing it was a perfect evening, complete with the big white house across the lake setting off fireworks. The wine was soon history everyone was mellow and happy, Howard sent Tommy home at 10:00.

“Carla we’re staying tonight if you have extra room,” Nichole asked. “Sure only its twin beds.” “That’s ok.” “I’ll get you a gown.” “Thanks Carla.”

“Hi partner, I’m staying buddy, this wine was way too good.” Howard was a little tipsy. “This is a first Howard, separate sleeping quarters or the same room.” “Same room I understand with separate beds got any big sweats.” “Come on with me, they may be a little short, oh wait I have just the thing for you Howard, see if these fit.” “Perfect, Craig thanks.”

“Carla you ok honey?” “Yes” “Where are you going Craig?” “I’m locking up, be right back?” Craig crawled in bed “OK, Good party Mrs. Jones, 100 percent occupancy and all lights out.” “This was a great idea Mr. Jones” Carla yawned, “Sleepy head, I have a promise to keep from this morning.” “Ooh . . . it’s the sea monster . . .”

Let’s See What Allan and Mary Kate Are Doing

Lake Michigan was really stirred up with large white caps as Allan looked out the window of his home on the beach in New Buffalo, lost in his thoughts and how really early it was for this type of winterish weather. “Back to work Allan Sullivan,” Mary Kate said gently as she walked up behind him, “You’re 100 miles away right now, what’s up?”

“Sorry, the stirred up lake somehow is reminding me of how turbulent Craig’s life has been for so many years. Now I am about to hand him another mess.” Mary Kate said “But this time he has Carla, and she’s his stability now.” Allan answered her reply, “My dear, you would not believe all the stuff Craig has had to endure.”

“Allan I’m here and you can use me for a sounding board if you like. Carla has been my best friend since I moved here and I want her happiness just as much as you want Craig’s.” Mary Kate pulled him away from the window.

“In fact Allan Sullivan, if it wouldn’t be for Carla and Craig getting together, we wouldn’t be together. Yes, we saw each other on many flights overseas. We worked together numerous times. It was our long hours of conversation on this past flight we ended up on together, that is what finally lit the fire.” Mary Kate smiled as she touched his hand, “Ironic isn’t it!”

“Yes Mary Kate, and who knows how we’ll end up. If we keep up like this we might just follow in their footsteps.” Allan stated holding her hand and gazing into her hazel eyes, he shook his head saying, “Back to work Miss Churchill!”

“Ok let’s get to this email business first. Later we can tackle the other battle of siblings’ legitimacy,” Allan ordered, while gazing at Mary Kate. “Ahem,” Allan regained his composure. “Check out the riddleman at xyz email address, where does it start Mary Kate? There are many of these old college email riddles from that address, back to the 1990’s. I can’t believe I actually saved all of these!”

Allan suddenly exclaimed, “Here’s one C August Riddle try that subject line?” “Wow, Allan we have the answer and you were so right on, Samuel White! Isn’t that Craig’s attorney and so called friend?” Mary Kate asked. “Yes the same one, and the one who played that nasty A May Riddle email trick on Craig a few months ago. That son of a bitch! Where’s my phone?” Allan shouted.

“Allan” Mary Kate hollered. “What?” Allan whipped his head around looking at her, realizing he was out of line, “Oh I’m so sorry, Mary Kate you were trying to get me focused again weren’t you?”

Yes! Calm down please, before you call Craig or anyone else please. We still have more information to get for Carla, remember . . . And we don’t want to spoil their big party. ”

“You are so right, let’s document this, and move on. How did you end up working with this stubborn man Mary Kate?” Allan asked looking at the lovely woman that was sitting next to him as Mary Kate patted his hand. “Guess the bureau knew we would be a good match. Oh what a match we have become!”
